The Heavenly Sanctuary: Part 2

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 04:16 PM PST

In some cultures, when someone saves your life, you are in indebted to them for the rest of your life. You owe them. you have a debt with that person. The only way that debt is paid, is when the person releases you from it. Otherwise, you are indebted for life. In light of this scenario, consider what Christ did for you. He laid his life down for you. Do you believe that you are indebted to him? Do you believe that you owe him your service for the rest of your life? Think about this, Jesus laid down his life for people who did not like him, people who hated him. He laid down his life for all of us, and we didn’t deserve it, and yet he gave it freely. In addition, Romans 3:24-25, speaks of propitiation:Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. What does propitiation mean? Well, one bible translation describes propitiation as the mercy seat. Isn’t this a wonderful thought that Jesus is the place where mercy is found. On top of this, Hebrews 7:25 teaches us that God has our back: Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. God is looking to intercede for us. He wants us to make it. It is as if He is cheering us on like a cheerleader. He loves us so much. He died for us. He intercedes for us, and He gives us mercy. Why not serve him?

Prayer: Lord we thank you for what Jesus has done for us. Help us to serve Him with all that we have. Thank you in Jesus name amen.

Read Hebrews 8:1-5. What is the main point taught in these verses?

The Bible describes an elaborate sacrificial system in the Old Testament. When Adam and Eve sinned this caused a separation between God and man(Isiah 59:2). The purpose of this system was to provide forgiveness of sins and bridge the gulf between God and man. The  Bible says And “according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Heb 9:22). Innocent goats and lambs were slaughtered to point toward Jesus the Lamb of God would would eventually die for the sins of the world. The entire Sanctuary system pointed toward to what God would do for His people through Jesus Christ.

God wanted to draw closer to His people to close the gap that sin created so he asked Moses to create a Sanctuary (Ex 25:3). The special thing about the  Sanctuary that Moses made was that it was a copy of the Sanctuary which existed in heaven. The high priests which ministered in the earthly sanctuary also pointed toward the true High Priest Jesus Christ who would minister in the heavenly Sanctuary. This is what the author of Hebrews is trying to tell us. The best is yet to come. Jesus Christ is now ministering in the Sanctuary in haven, interceding on our behalf through the precious sacrifice the He made for us on the cross.

Prayer: Lord God almighty help us to understand the topic of your heavenly sanctuary. Thank you in Jesus name amen.
