Posted: 02 Dec 2012 02:18 AM PST What do the following texts tell us about the law and, ultimately, about God? Ps. 19:7, 8; Rom. 7:12; Ps. 119:151, 152, 172. D. L. Moody said, ‘I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and everything that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts. But if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and the world, there is no room for the Spirit of God. We must be emptied before we can be filled.” Did you ever for one moment think that you were a good Christian? Did you ever think that you were doing all the right things and if Jesus were to come today that you would be on the front row to glory? Would you really admit such spiritual arrogance? If you are ever tempted to feel this way God has given a remedy, His law. God’s law is a reflection of what God is like. As a Christians God’s character should be seen in you (1 John 2:26). I guess you are dying to find out what is it about God’s character that we see in His law? Ok so I will tell you. God’s law is perfect so that means that He is perfect. God’s law has the power to change lives, so that means He can change your life. God’s law is something that is certain, that’s right you guessed it God is certain. There is more, the law makes wise the simple, and it is right. Have you ever been sad before? Then God’s law can also cheer your heat. God’s law is also pure and it helps you to understand things better. God’s Law is holy just, good it is truth, righteousness and everlasting. That is really a mouth full! The simple truth is, all that can be said about God’s law can be said about Him. We truly do serve an awesome God! But wait If God’s character is supposed to be seen in you, then you may ask how am I ever to meet such a high standard? This is where the emptying takes place the Moody talked about. God’s Law points out everything contrary to His character and magnifies your need of a Savior (Gal 3:14). This is why the law is linked with the Gospel. The Good news is the Jesus is that Jesus is our righteousness (1 Cor 1:30). Look through Exodus 23:1–9. What universal moral principles can we take from what was given specifically to ancient Israel? When you look through the Old Testament you may be wondering about all of the laws and regulations that exist in the Bible and which are the ones that I am supposed to follow? The Laws in the bible can be separated into the ceremonial laws and the moral laws. The what and the what? If you are confused on this I will be preparing a study on the law of God. I can summarize it by saying the moral law is the 10 commandments found in (Exodus 20 1-17.) God also has other commands know as the ceremonial laws which where were done away with at the cross (Col 2:14). While this above passage is apart of the ceremonial law it contains principles which can be be summarized by Jesus in the phrase love your neighbor as yourself. In fact Jesus summarizes the whole law by saying love God and love man. When you love God and love man you fulfilling the law ( Mat 22:35-40). Prayer: Lord God Almighty, We thank you for your law and the law giver. Empty us of your sinfulness and fill us with your righteousness Help us to love you with all of our hearts, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up Lord! In Jesus name amen.
