The Episode in Berea

Posted: 08 Jul 2012 03:43 AM PDT

How was Paul's experience in Berea different from that in Thessalonica? See Acts 17:10-15. What's the message for us in that difference?

When Paul was in Thessalonica he faced opposition from those who lived there. When Paul got to Berea it was totally different. Sometimes when we are about to experience a blessing we first experience opposition. The resistance that we experience is often and indicator that we are about to experience a break through. The Thessalonicans were so obtuse that they even went as far as coming to Berea to cause problems. When you set out to do the work of the Lord you will experience opposition but you must continue to press forward. Your blessing is on the way!

What are some examples where the Christian church acted in ways that were clearly in the wrong? What lessons can we learn from those mistakes? Bring your answers to class on Sabbath.

In the past the Church has had a history of persecuting others who did not believe as they believed. In these instances there were people who were over zealous for doing what was right that they missed the spirit behind their motivation. We must remember to keep our eyes focused on Jesus Christ. When we keep our eyes focused on Jesus Christ then we are able to keep the main thing the main thing. I am sure each church has some things which it is not proud of but as we seek to keep Christ as the focal point we can all experience growth.

Prayer: Father help us to remember to keep you at the center of our religion. Help us to see the importance of Jesus in all that we do. Thank you Father, in Jesus name amen.
