Read the story of the demon-possessed man in Mark 5:1–19. What did Jesus tell this man that illustrates the principle that friends are more receptive to our sharing the gospel? How can we learn to apply this principle in our own work of personal witness and ministry?
Jesus is utterly amazing! When others are walking away from your problems Jesus is walking toward them. Jesus confronts your problems grants you peace and releases you to a new life of freedom. That is just what he does! Here we see Jesus in action. Jesus helped change this mans life around , and the man was willing to go anywhere with Jesus. Jesus recognized that it was necessary for this man to use the strength of his witness with his friends. The people we are closest to and whom we come in contact are most receptive to our testimonies. Our ministry is not far away but it is very near to where we live and work.
In what ways could you be more hospitable to those around you? How can you learn to be more willing to give of yourself in order to meet the needs of those whom you are seeking to reach?
The beautiful thing is that hospitality can be learned. The best way I can think about it is by using the golden rule. How would you want someone to treat you or interact with you. You can come up with little ideas to make people feel welcome and accepted. You will be surprised how far these simple gestures of kindness will go. Everything improves with proper practice. You may be more hospitable then you even realize.
Prayer: Lord God almighty help us to have a hospitable lifestyle, in Jesus name amen.
