Sabbath School Lesson

Walking in Their Shoes

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 04:50 AM PDT

Read 1 Corinthians 9:20–22. What do these verses tell us about Paul's approach to different peoples and his desire to identify with their needs and concerns? What can we take from this for ourselves in our attempts to reach out to those around us? See also Heb. 4:15.

Paul was adaptable to the group he ministered to. That is great! People want to know that you care for them and by adapting to their unique needs I believe you can connect easier with them. When you take the time to understand a person and relate to them from their unique context this can go a long way.

In the same way Jesus came down to earth to understand and experience what humans experience. Jesus understands us and he knows what we go through because he experienced the same things. We can learn a lot from both Paul and Jesus.

Prayer:  Lord God Almighty help us with people on their level. Thank you in Jesus name amen.

Having Compassion for People

Posted: 23 Apr 2012 04:52 PM PDT

Read Matthew 9:36–38. Though spoken in a specific and unique context, the sentiments Jesus expressed are not limited to just that context. What was Jesus saying, and how do those words apply to the field in your immediate area?

When we see people who are in need what is our response to them. Are our hearts touched with the things that touch the heart of God? We should not only see those who are in need but we should seek ways to help them. We seek to be a solution. The prayer that prays for harvesters in Gods vineyard is a prayer that asks God to prepare our own hearts for labor.

Discuss what you think the word compassion means. How can you learn from your own suffering and your own need for compassion? How can you learn to be more compassionate to those around you?

Compassion means to respond with your emotions and feelings toward a person. Your heart goes out for them and you wish good will toward them. You look and see a persons condition and want to somehow provide relief to their situation. If we are deficient in compassion we should only look to our own needs and ask how would I want someone to respond to me. If we do to other what we would want them to do to us this will help us be more compassionate.

Prayer:  Lord God Almighty, please fill our hearts with compassion for people. Thank you in Jesus name amen.
