The Past and the Future

Posted: 26 Feb 2012 08:47 AM PST

What do biblical writers assert regarding human history's beginning and end? Gen. 1:1; Job 38:1–7; Ps. 104:1–9; Rev. 1:1–3, 19; 21:1–6.

God reveals Himself to be the at the beginning and the end of human history. God was there at the creation in Genesis and He is there at the recreation in Revelation. God is the one who measures out time and He is the one who sets all things in is’s place. Because God is the ruler of human history we can trust Him with our lives and trust him to write our stories.

How is this revelation explained in the New Testament? 2 Pet. 1:21.

God is apart of the revelation which He gives to men. Men are inspired by God to use their own words to deliver divine revelation. The revelation that men of God are given does not originate with them but God delivers if unto them. God is involved in human history and He wants to make His will clearly know and uses His servants to do so.

How easy is it to predict the future? How often have you gotten it wrong? The good news is that God does know the future, does know all that will happen. How can you draw comfort for yourself from the realization that a God of love knows about all that comes our way?

I believe that we can know the immediate future but reasoning from cause to effect. Through this method we can make choices based upon our understanding of what the outcomes will be. I believe God calls us to be wise in this regards. God is the only one who has a definite hold on the future , therefore we can trust Him.

Prayer: Lord God Almighty, we thank you today that you are the ruler of human history. Help us to trust you with our story. Thank you , in Jesus name amen.
