In the reading of these passages in the old-testament scriptures they confused the purpose of the law. The law was made an end in itself and not a means to an end. In Galatians the law is called a tutor which directs to Christ (3:24). The law does not grant us life but points us to, and helps us realize the necessity of the life-giver. The Sabbath school lesson states that the law directs how life should be lived by those abiding in God’s covenant. The law does regulate life but it is not the source of a person’s relationship with God. Though the law cannot save us, what great benefits does our adherence to it have for us? That is, what practical good have you experienced in your own life through obedience to God's law? The law is something that was given for our own benefit. If we seek to abide by the parameters of God’s law it grants us a more healthy and fulfilled life. The law provides a manual for how to live life optimally while on this earth , and ensure happiness in the earth to come. If I were to put it simply the law just makes sense. Prayer: Father we thank you for your promise, please help us not to confuse the purpose of your law. Helps us to develop a relationship not with the law but with the lawgiver. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
