As I read through Galatians 3:1-5 I see an ancient problem which is manifested in a modern way. In this passage Paul is exasperated at the behavior of the Galatians. Paul is astounded that the Galatians turn away from the complete Gospel of Jesus Christ to an insufficient, impotent Gospel. In chapter one of Galatians Paul says that the gospel that the Galatians have defected to is in actuality no gospel at all (Gal 1:6-).

As we examine the condition of the Galatians we have to ask ourselves that same pointed question. What entices us to a bankrupt religion of works? What causes us to think that we really can do anything to merit our position before God? Why do we add up our good deeds and subtract them from our bad deeds and if we are in the positive we virtually guarantee our own place in the kingdom. As I question you I too stand questioned as well. How do we recapture the Gospel which stands completely and wholly on the righteousness of Jesus Christ?

Prayer: Father help us to rest our religion completely and wholly upon Jesus Christ. Thank you in Jesus name amen.
