Mary’s Song of Praise and Worship Posted: 04 Sep 2011 08:44 AM PDT Read Luke 1:46–55, often known as the Song of Mary. What is the background to this song? Why is she singing it? What elements of praise and worship are revealed here? What appears here that we have touched on all through the quarter?
Mary is a virgin and she was visited by the Angel of the Lord who revealed to her that she was with child by the Holy Spirit. The angel also declared to Mary how she was favored of God and Mary accepted the words as the angel said. Mary was also told that her cousin Elizabeth would have a child in her old age. Mary went to visit Elizabeth and Elizabeth’s child leaped in the womb at the presence Mary. As Mary reflects on all these things she breaks forth into a song of thanksgiving for what God has done. Mary worships God for His goodness towards her. Mary demonstrates to us what is the appropriate response to the goodness of God. In the light of God’s goodness we respond to God with worship and praise with thanksgiving. How much of the "miraculous" do you see in your own life? Might it be there and yet you are just too hard, too closed, too wrapped up in yourself to see it as you should? This past month I worked in an evangelistic meeting, and I can say that I say the miraculous take place. At one point in the meeting we had a baptism scheduled yet there was one to be baptized. That same morning a young man showed up who wanted to be baptized and he was baptized that day. God saw our faith and He met us halfway. I believe it is sometimes difficult for me to see that miraculous because I try to think and explain many things away but I must learn how to leave things in God’s hands. Prayer: Father thank you for all that you have done for us. You are worthy of our worship and our praise. Father move us out of the way so we can experience that miracles that you want to do in our lives. Thank you in Jesus name amen. Related posts: |
