Summary: What does this verse mean when it says that, in Christ, we each become "a new creature"?

Verse: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

The Gospel Goes to the Gentiles

Posted: 28 Sep 2011 05:28 PM PDT

gentiles photos 150x150 The Gospel Goes to the GentilesWhere was the first Gentile church established? What events caused the believers to go there? (Acts 11:19–21, 26).What does that remind you of from Old Testament times? (See Daniel 2.)

The first Christian church was established in Antioch. The reason the believers went to Antioch was because of persecution. In the same way the Jews were in an adverse situation, so was Daniel. While in Antioch the Jews witnessed to the Greeks, and while in Babylon Daniel witnessed to king Nebuchadnezzar. Though Daniel was a captive he was able to share the one true God with the Babylonian king. In both situations God used the adverse situation as a catalyst for the spreading of a knowledge of Him.

What occurred in Antioch that resulted in Barnabas' visit to the city and his subsequent decision to invite Paul to join him in Antioch? What kind of picture is presented of the church there? (Acts 11:20–26).

Here in this passage we see how the gospel goes the gentiles. We can see that the christian church at this point is a progressive movement.

Read again Acts 11:19–26. What can we learn from the church at Antioch, a very culturally and ethnically diverse church, that could help churches today emulate the good that existed there?

In this text we see a Church which is diverse. We must lift up the cause of the gospel above of the apparent difference we face culturally. We must always keep in mind the greater purpose at hand.

Prayer: Father thank you for your Gospel. Please use us to carry the gospel wherever to as many people as possible. Thank you in Jesus name amen.

Summary: We're all weak, so there are times we're less than loving to the ones we're supposed to cherish. How can we overcome our frustration?

Verse: "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it."
— Ephesians 5:25

Summary: The devil wants to lead people away from the safety of God's heart. Peter didn't tell us to be scared, but to be vigilant—and the greatest vigilance is maintained by being close to Jesus.

Verse: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
—1 Peter 5:8

Saul in Damascus

Posted: 27 Sep 2011 05:30 AM PDT

paul journey1 150x150 Saul in Damascus

Read 1 Samuel 16:7, Matthew 7:1, and 1 Corinthians 4:5. What is the message of these texts in regard to why we must be careful in how we view the spiritual experience of other people? What mistakes have you made in your judgments about others, and what have you l earned from those mistakes?

Because we are humans we have a limitation in what we can know or understand about people. We even have a difficult time understanding ourselves let alone another person (Jer 17:9) We can never accurately understand a person based upon our limited understanding. In the case with the slection of the next King of Israel we see that God does not look at the outward but He looks at the heart. It is easy to pass judgement on others because we can only go by what we see with our eyes. We must ask God to help us to see people as He sees them. If you are ever in doubt to the destructive nature of passng judgememt just thing back to a time when it was done to you how did that make you feel? We must learn to develop relationships with people not with their diagnosis.

Prayer: Father help us not to pass judgment on people but to see them as you see them and to love them as you love them. Thank you in Jesus name amen.

I would like to people as God see’s them

Summary: God is enormously generous toward us. He didn't have to fill the world with beauty for us to enjoy—he could have made all the flowers just one color. And not only did He give us the gift of nature, but He gave us the greatest Gift the world has ever known!

Verse: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
—John 3:16
