Monday''s Lesson - Standing Tall When It Counts

Focus on Numbers 13:30. What can we learn about Caleb and about trusting in God's promises from what he said?

In the scene all the children of Israel are crying because they feel that the challenge before them is too difficult. The children of Israel feel that this is something that they will not be able to handle. Because the children of Israel feel this way they cry in hopelessness anticipating the surety of defeat.

It is in this setting were we find Caleb arising and quiting the tears of the people. Though the people lack the faith that is necessary to meet this challenge head on Caleb believes that they will be able to possess the land. Despite the peer pressure Caleb arises as a solitary voice of hope in the midst of the voices of despair.

Caleb trusts in the God. From the example of Caleb we should trust God's word despite the way things appear. EGW says this in regards to appearances and courage "Never let your courage fail. Never talk unbelief because appearances are against you" Testimonies for the Church 7:244. Caleb shows us that we can take courage in God's word.

Read Numbers 14:1–10, 20–24. What do we see here as an end result of rejecting God's Word and thus coming to a faulty interpretation of the "facts"?

The first thing we see is that Israel rebelled against Moses and blamed him for taking them out of Egypt. We also see that they were denied access to the promise land because of their unbelief. Israel did not want to believe God's promise in the face of despair so He forbade them from entering into the land of that promise.

In what ways have you suffered from other people's bad choices? How have you handled yourself in these situations?

The other day I was traveling home and a car decided to try and beat a bus on a turn. The bus ended up hitting the car and flipping it over. This was obviously a bad choice, incidentally this bad choice cause a traffic jam. This traffic jam resulted raising my anxiety level and may other peoples anxiety on that street.

The driver of that vehicle made a bad choice. What we should do is learn from the bad choices that people make and seek not to make the same choices.

Prayer: Father we thank you for the example of Caleb. Help us to continually trust in youdespite the way that things appear. Thank you in Jesus name amen.
