Sabbath School Lesson - With What Measure You Mete |
Posted: 20 Sep 2010 06:17 PM PDT Monday's Lesson - With What Measure You Mete The thing that Paul want's us to realize is that we have no reason to judge another individual because we will all be judged by God. We can should not look upon our fellow brother or sister with contempt because God is the one who will have the ultimate judgement overs us all. Of what significance is the statement from the Old Testament that Paul introduced here? Rom. 14:11. Again this lets us know who is really in control. God is the one who we will all have to bow and worship and confess to. Men and women on this earth do no deserve the worship that is alone due to God. Therefore we should not concern ourselves with the superficial judgement's people may pass upon us because we must all answer to God. Keeping the context in mind, how do you understand what Paul is saying in Romans 14:14? In this passage Paul is talk about food which has been offered to idols. There is nothing inherently wrong with eating food which has been offered to idols , but what makes it wrong is the conscience of the person who eats. If the person who eats violates his own continence then that food is unclean for him. Paul says in Romans 14:22 "Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves." Might you, in your zeal for the Lord, be in danger of what Paul is warning about here? Why must we be careful in not seeking to be the conscience of others, no matter how good our intentions? It is important that we not seek to be the conscience of others because in doing so it forces them to go against their convictions. When people go against their convictions it makes them uncomfortable and unsettled. There is nothing wrong with differing convictions but there is something wrong with seeking to be another mans conscience. Prayer: Father grant us eyes to see the beauty in our difference as Christians. Help us to stay true to our convictions while not seeking to impose them on others. Father thank you for all you have done. In Jesus name amen. |
