Sabbath School Lesson - Stumbling |
Posted: 02 Sep 2010 04:02 AM PDT What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith " (Rom. 9:30–32). What's the message here, and, more important, how can we take this message, written in a certain time and place, and apply the principles to ourselves today? How can we avoid making the same mistakes in our context that some Israelites did in theirs?

What is the basic message found in all these verses? What hope is being offered there to his readers? God called Israel to be His chosen people, but God has now extended to this calling to all nations. Paul is using the story of Hosea to show how God loved us unconditionally. The Story of Hosea Shows how has called those who were not originally His to be His Children. God has now extended His exclusive election of Israel to every nation kindred tongue and people. We do no boast in this fact because it is only by the working of God that we become His children. The Spirit of God dwelling in us helps us to live holy lives. God's grace is the divine architect of our righteous characters and we must remember to always acknowledge this fact. How often have people failed you? How often have you failed yourself and failed others? Probably more times than you can count, right? What lessons can you learn from these failures about where your ultimate trust must lie? The reality is if we have lived long enough that we have been let down. Because of this fact some people choose to live life with no expectations of others. I am not sure if this is best way to handle the fact of human failure. We must learn to put our ultimate trust in God. God is the only one that we can fully depend on. Humans will fail us over and over again but God will never fail. Prayer: Thank you for calling us to be your people. We live in l life littered with failed promises but your promises are sure, help us to put our trust in them. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
