Sabbath School Lesson - Nearer Than We Believed |
Posted: 17 Sep 2010 02:29 AM PDT Thursday's Lesson - Nearer Than We Believed Read Romans 13:11–14. What event is Paul talking about here, and how should we be acting in anticipation of that event? In this passage the event that he is referring to is the second coming of Christ. Paul is using the imagery of sleep to show the condition of all who are not in Christ or living righteous lives. Because the second coming is nearer Paul is admonishing believers to live their lives in a certain way. Those expecting the second coming should shed the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light. Rather than living unrighetously believers should live holy lives as they await the soon coming of Christ. If you knew for certain that Jesus was coming next month, what would you change in your life, and why? Now, if you believe you need to change these things a month before Jesus comes, why shouldn't you change them now? What is the difference? It is my prayer that each day I live my life as if Jesus were to come tomorrow. As Christians we should enter into each day with this reality in view. What usually gets in the way is our desire to control our own lives rather than give that control over to God. Prayer: Father thank you for the promise of your soon return. Help us to live each day understanding that Jesus is coming soon. Help us to trust you with our all. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
