Sabbath School Lesson - Two Contending Masters |
Posted: 11 Aug 2010 05:38 AM PDT Wednesday's Lesson - Two Contending Masters Read Romans 6:16. What point is Paul making? Why is his argument very black and white here? That is, it is either one or the other, with no middle ground. What lesson should we draw from this very clear contrast? Paul here is using the imagery of a master servant relationship. The one whom we present ourselves for obedience is the one which becomes our master. In this instance we have two masters to choose from one is sin and the other is obedience to God. These choices have two distinct results , one result is death the other is righteousness. In salvation there is no middle ground. We must choose to yield ourselves to to obey God or be obedient to the Devil. We should not be confused in thinking that we can dilly dally on the fence when the fence belongs to the Devil as well. God has done so much for us wont we decide for Him today? Read Romans 6:17. How does Paul expand here on what he said in verse 16 Here Paul is talking about how the Romans were slaves to sin but they became committed from the heart to the things they heard. This shows how we must make a heartfelt commitment to God , it must not be about the external but the entire life must be surrendered. This also shows that we must be taught and act up on what we have been taught. Servants of sin, servants of righteousness: the contrast is very stark. If, after baptism, we sin, does this mean that we are not truly saved? Read 1 John 1:8–2:1. How do these texts help us understand what it means to be a follower of Christ and yet still subject to falling? We must understand who has our heart and our most precious affections. If we sin we after baptism this does not mean we are not saved but that we are still need a savior. Jesus will continue to be our only help of glory , we must allow Him to work in our lives so that we may become stronger and stronger. As a Christian you will miss the mark, but you must continue to go back to Jesus the one who can help you. As you continue to come to Him He will help you to overcome these sins.We must trust in God and have faith. The precious blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Prayer: Father today we want to choose you. We do not want to flounder on the fence of sin but we decidedly choose you toady. Please help us to be more like Jesus keep us encouraged. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
