Sabbath School Lesson - Sin Personified |
Posted: 09 Aug 2010 02:51 AM PDT Sin Personified - Monday's Lesson What admonition is given to us in Romans 6:12? Paul is telling us not to let sin reign in our bodies. The world that Paul uses is βασιλεύω , which means to to be king, to exercise kingly power. Paul is using the word metaphorically so it means do not let sin to exercise the highest influence over you. Just as a king is the highest power in a territory , sin should not be given that same degree of power in our bodies. As a king gives order and commands if sin is allowed to reign in bodies we would be come obedient to it's lusts and desires. Paul is admonishing us to dethrone this evil king in our lives so that we may live differently. Go back over the quote from Ellen G. White in today's study. Notice how crucial the concept of free will is. As moral creatures, we must have a free will, the power to choose right and wrong, good and evil, Christ or the world. Over the next 24 hours, try to keep track consciously of how you are using this moral free will. What can you learn about your use, or abuse, of this sacred gift? This is an amazing promise. This quote puts into perspective what is our part to play in salvation and what is God's part. Our part is to simply yield our power of choice over to God and He will work in us to transform us into reflections of His grace. The quote say's that we can not change our hearts nor can we give to God it's affections. This is very provocative , this idea that I cant make my heart love God more its God that creates the love as I choose Him. We can't try harder to love God but as we choose to be His servants the increases our love for Him. Prayer: Father thank you because you have given us power to dethrone sin in our lives. Today we want to choose to be your servants. Fill us with your power and your grace and cover us in your righteousness. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
