Sabbath School Lesson - People: Social Beings |
Posted: 21 Jun 2010 04:51 AM PDT Monday's Lesson - People Social Beings Read Romans 14:7. What important principle is found in this text? How have you experienced the powerful reality of this truth? The principle of this passage is that we are created for each other. Whether in life or death our lives are effected by the lives of others. There is no way that we can live on this earth and not have an impact on someone else. From this passage we can see that we need each other. What do the following texts tell us about how social relationships were meant as a blessing for us? Gen. 2:18, Eccles. 4:9–12; 1 Cor. 12:14–26, Gal. 6:2. Gen 2:18 In a world which was perfectly created we find that even then it was not good for mankind to be alone. Adam witnessed in all the animals the fact that each of them had a companion. Nature reveals to us that we were created for each other. God did not originally intend for us to live alone, but together with each other in community. Eccles. 4:9–12 This passage highlights that two people are better than one. When people come together it is better than when one person is alone. More can be accomplished when people are working together and when they are in collaboration. Also when people work together it is a defense against distraction and discouragement. 1 Cor. 12:14–26 This passage talks about how the church is just like the human body. As the body is made up of different parts likewise the church is made of different parts. These parts are all necessary because they contribute to the body functioning properly. No part is better than another because they all have their specific purpose. God has blessed each individual with various gifts and talents so they can fill different roles in the church. In terms of social relationships this text lets us know that we all need each other. No one person is more important than another because of what they can and can't do. In what ways have you benefited from a social network? How can you help others in the same way you have benefited? Do you tend to take more from the network, or give more? What does your answer say about yourself? Having a network of friends that you can confide in an talk to is a tremendous blessing. It is necessary to have people lift you up when you are weak and push you forward when you are fearful. These same people also help you to grow and mature into all that God wants you to be. If you are a person that simply takes and does not give back this would make you selfish. This would also probably mean that you are distant and don't feel connected to the community. Effective community is about giving and taking. Prayer: Father thank you for the people that you have placed in our lives. I pray that you may strengthen us as we learn to work together for your cause. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
Posted: 20 Jun 2010 09:41 AM PDT Sunday's Lesson - The Original Image Read Genesis 1:27. How does the fact that Jesus Himself is God help us understand better what it means to have been made in the image of God? How does knowing about Jesus help us understand the kind of characters our first parents had at the creation? When we think of the character of Jesus we see the spotless perfect Son of God. Jesus' character was symmetrical balanced beautiful and inviting. Created in the image of God before sin we had the same characters. Our mind's were balanced as well as our personalities. Our thoughts were pure and noble, but after sin this all changed. When we think of how loving Jesus was and how unselfish he was we can imagine mankind was originally like this as well. It was Adams responsibility to look after the garden and tend to everything in the garden. Now humanity serves it's self and hardly regards it's responsibility toward each other and God's creation. Dwell more on this idea about what it means to have been made in the image of God and that Jesus is God. How does this fact help us understand just how fallen we are and how much we need a Savior? More so, how should this help us understand why we need to treat people better than we often do? When we think of this we must understand that we were created to manifest the character of Jesus on the earth. If we believe that we are created in the image of God then it makes a difference in how we treat each other. If we believe we have just evolved it gives us a lower concept of humanity. We must treat each other better simply for the fact that we are all created in the image of God. Prayer: Father help us to treat each other the way that you would treat them. Thank you for your love toward us. In Jesus name amen. |
