Monday's Lesson - The Cares of This Life

Read the following texts. What do they tell us about how we are to live our lives? What are the lessons we can learn from each of these examples?

Mic. 6:8

From this passage we understand that we are to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. We should seek to uphold justice in all that we do. We should seek justice in business transactions, in personal relationships , and even in our communication. We should also love mercy. Rather than looking for the sternest way to deal with people we should seek to be merciful. Our love of mercy is balanced out by our desire to do justice. Finally we are to walk humbly with our God. Rather than seeking to take glory to ourselves we should seek to direct glory back to God.

Luke 8:14

As we read the scriptures we must let them take root in our lives. As we apply the promises of God to our lives we must develop a trust for God. When we worry and doubt in our Christian experience it chokes out the seed of the word of God in our lives. By testing God's word and acting upon it we allow it to grow and spring up into mature faith.

Luke 10:38–42

In life we must recognize the difference between the essential and the non essential. That which is essential should never be sacrificed at the expense of the non essential. In this passage the job of Martha was important but the Job of Mary was the most important in this passage.

Luke 12:16–21

This passage is a passage about priorities. We must understand our priorities while on this earth. The man in this passage lived a life of self service. The life is not fulfilled by selfish living but giving living.

How much of what you are doing will be remembered in eternity? In contrast, how much are you doing that will one day be eternally forgotten? What does your answer tell you about yourself, how you're living, and, perhaps, what choices you need to make.

This is a question which we need to ask ourselves everyday. Through personal reflection upon this question it will help us to prioritize our days, and our ways.

Prayer: Father we thank you for all that you have done. Please help us to understand that things which are of eternal significance. Thank you for you love , justice and mercy. In Jesus name amen.
