Sunday's Lesson - The Creation

Read Genesis 2:15. What does it say about God's intention for humanity regarding work, even before sin?

God put Adam in the garden that he may dress it and keep it. Adam was to care for the garden and tend to the needs of the garden. Even though in paradise God provided useful labor for Adam to do.

Just as Adam worked in paradise we too must work on this earth. In work there is a blessing that is available to all. On this subject of work one commentator says the following.

"We were none of us sent into the world to be idle. He that made us ... has given us something to work with; and he that gave us this earth for our habitation has made us something to work on" (Matthew Henry Full Commentary)

Read Genesis 1:9–12, and Genesis 1:20–26. What does God create next? What conditions were needed in order for this to happen; that is, what was needed in order for this part of creation to be able to survive?

In these passages we see that God creates the land and sea, and all the vegetation which exists on the earth. It was necessary for God to create these things so that the animals and mankind could survive.

The Creation account teaches that the Creation was a very orderly, planned, and meticulously executed event. It leaves no room for chance of any kind. What does that tell us about the character and power of God? How could this realization about God help you in whatever struggles you might be going through now?

From the events of creation we see that God knows how to provide for the needs of His creation. God prepared a suitable place for His creation even before He created them. In the same way God understands our needs. This helps us understand that God knows what is best for us and He understands our struggles.

Prayer: Father you are the creator of heaven and earth and the Lord of our lives. Help us trust tha.t you have all things under control. Thank you for your loving care, please teach us to trust you more day by day. In Jesus name Amen
