Sabbath School Lesson - Sun Worshipers |
Posted: 29 Apr 2010 05:27 AM PDT Read 2 Kings 23:5, Jeremiah 8:2, and Ezekiel 8:16. What was going on here? Why, in one sense, would it make sense to worship the sun? In all these passages we find people who are worshiping the sun. The scriptures tells us that without faith it is possible to please God and that we must believe that He exists when we come to Him (Heb 11:6) It is easier sometimes to try to place our confidence in things which we can see than the things which we can not see. I believe that this is why one may choose to worship the sun. The bottom line? As with so much else regarding healthful living, temperance and balance in regard to sunlight exposure are crucial. Prayer: Father we thank you for the light of the sun and the light of the Son. I pray that you may help us to take full benefit of the sun and the Son that you have provided for us. In Jesus name amen. I would like to experience the light of the Son of righteousness |
Our Responsibility for the Environment Posted: 28 Apr 2010 06:37 AM PDT Read Psalm 24:1. What implications do these words have for us and how we relate to the world? As we look around at the conditions in our world, we need to ask the question, "What, if anything, can we do to improve the environment?" One implication for our relationship to the world is that we must look at activities and endeavors in the world as services to God.Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, (Col 3:23 NIV) Our care for the environment, and our desire to become good stewards of the environment is a service rendered unto God. In order to make improvements for the environment we must educate ourselves and then apply our education in a practical way. Read Matthew 25:34–46. How might our stewardship of the earth in some way play a role here in doing what Jesus asks us to do? What other verses could you think of that also could apply to this issue? Jesus is setting before us the idea that any service we render for someone else is a service that is rendered to Him. In the same sense when we preserve resources, and adopt other environmentally friendly habits they impact others. A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.(Prov 12:10 NASB)In the same way that righteousness can be seen in the care that a man has for his animals , I believe it can be see as well in the care that we exhibit in the care of the environment. Prayer: Father we thank you for the gift of the environment please help us to see that all service that we do towards others and this world is a service toward you. Help us to increase our witness on this earth. Thank you in Jesus name Amen. |
