Sabbath School Lesson - The Sabbath Environment |
Posted: 26 Apr 2010 06:26 AM PDT Read Genesis 2:2, 3. What can we read into the fact that God Himself rested on the Sabbath day? We see that God is resting from all the work that He has done during the previous six days. God is not resting because He was tired but He it resting to give us a divine example. When we rest with God as He rested we acknowledge that He is the creator of the heavens of the earth. Read Mark 2:27, 28 and Mark 3:4. What was Jesus' under-standing of the Sabbath? In this passage in Mark Jesus acknowledges that the Sabbath was created for the enjoyment and pleasure of man. The Sabbath is a gift from God to man to provide a time for reconnection with the creator family, and friends. The Sabbath should not become a burden ,which makes it toilsome and unbearable. To make the Sabbath as such would take away from this teaching of Jesus. In addition to this Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath thus He knows best its purpose and intent. How could and should Sabbath keeping help us better understand the wonderful gift we've been given of this created world and, more so, how could and should it help us understand better our obligation to take care of it? When we keep the Sabbath we are acknowledging God as creator of the world. It is difficult to set aside a day to remember the creator and actively destroy His creation. The Sabbath truth is not only about what happens on the seventh day but it is about what happens on the six days. Prayer: Father thank you for this world that you have given us. Help us to remember you six days a week, and to rest on the seventh. Thank you for being our creator , help us to acknowledge your sovereignty. In Jesus name Amen. Please pray for me |
