Sabbath School Lesson - Choice and the Next Generation |
Choice and the Next Generation Posted: 08 Apr 2010 04:31 AM PDT Read Deuteronomy 30:10–19. What is the essence of the Lord's words to His people? What points jump out at you? More important, how do you understand the idea that their choice will impact the life of their seed, their children? What does that mean? How can our choices impact our children? When we examine this passage we find that God wants us to be completely obedient to Him. God wants us to serve Him with our hearts with our minds and with our souls. Moreover God adds that what He requires of us is not something obscure that we do not know about it but it is near to us , in our hearts on our lips because of the law. There is a contrast to the life of the person who chooses to be obedient to God and the person who does not choose to be obedient. The person who chooses to be obedient is promised prosperity and life, the disobedient adversity and death. The blessing and curse continues on to the descendants of those who choose to be obedient and those be obedient. In the wilderness narrative we see directly how the choices of the Israelites impacted their children. Because they choose to be disobedient they prolonged their stay in the wilderness. The children of the disobedient grew up in the wilderness rather than the promised land because of the choices of their parents. Prayer: Father thank you for giving us the power of Choice. please open out eyes that we may understand that our choices do not only impact us. Help us to surrender to you completely. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
