Summary: In a world where sliding by seems to be the normal pattern of living, this verse in Ecclesiastes presents us with a challenge! What is God's perspective on productivity?

Verse: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going."
—Ecclesiastes 9:10

Sabbath School Lesson - Sun Worshipers

Sabbath School Lesson - Sun Worshipers

Sun Worshipers

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 05:27 AM PDT

Read 2 Kings 23:5, Jeremiah 8:2, and Ezekiel 8:16. What was going on here? Why, in one sense, would it make sense to worship the sun?

In all these passages we find people who are worshiping the sun. The
scriptures tells us that without faith it is possible to please God
and that we must believe that He exists when we come to Him (Heb 11:6)

It is easier sometimes to try to place our confidence in things which
we can see than the things which we can not see. I believe that this
is why one may choose to worship the sun.

The bottom line? As with so much else regarding healthful living, temperance and balance in regard to sunlight exposure are crucial.

Prayer: Father we thank you for the light of the sun and the light of the Son. I pray that you may help us to take full benefit of the sun and the Son that you have provided for us. In Jesus name amen.

I would like to experience the light of the Son of righteousness

Our Responsibility for the Environment

Posted: 28 Apr 2010 06:37 AM PDT

Read Psalm 24:1. What implications do these words have for us and how we relate to the world? As we look around at the conditions in our world, we need to ask the question, "What, if anything, can we do to improve the environment?"

One implication for our relationship to the world is that we must look
at activities and endeavors in the world as services to God.Whatever you
do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
(Col 3:23 NIV)

Our care for the environment, and our desire to become good stewards
of the environment is a service rendered unto God. In order to make
improvements for the environment we must educate ourselves and then
apply our education in a practical way.

Read Matthew 25:34–46. How might our stewardship of the earth in some way play a role here in doing what Jesus asks us to do? What other verses could you think of that also could apply to this issue?

Jesus is setting before us the idea that any service we render for
someone else is a service that is rendered to Him. In the same sense
when we preserve resources, and adopt other environmentally friendly
habits they impact others.

A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the
compassion of the wicked is cruel.(Prov 12:10 NASB)In the same way
that righteousness can be seen in the care that a man has for his
animals , I believe it can be see as well in the care that we
exhibit in the care of the environment.

Prayer: Father we thank you for the gift of the environment please help us to see that all service that we do towards others and this world is a service toward you. Help us to increase our witness on this earth. Thank you in Jesus name Amen.

Summary: This may be the most famous verse in the Bible, and it tells us just how completely God has given His Son to the human race!

Verse: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
—John 3:16

Sabbath School Lesson - Changes in the Environment after Sin

Sabbath School Lesson - Changes in the Environment after Sin

Changes in the Environment after Sin

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 07:57 AM PDT

Read Genesis 3:7, 17–19. What was the first indication to Adam and Eve that their action in eating the forbidden fruit had consequences?

The scriptures tells us that their eyes were opened and they realized
that they were naked.Their first instinct was to create a man-made
covering to hide their nakedness.

Subsequently as Adam and Eve begin to dialog with God He reveals the
consequences of their actions.God curses the ground and adds thorns
and thistles to the plants.

Before sin the ground was pliable and welcoming whereas after the
fall it became difficult and toilsome to work with. Man was cursed
to work by sweat in order to retrieve his sustenance from the earth.

See 1 Kings 10:14–22. What does this tell us about how humans had come to view the Creation

We find that Solomon had a collection of many impressive things
which do not appear to be environmentally friendly. Solomon used
natural resources with apparently no discretion to furnish the
extravagance of his kingdom.

Years ago, a political leader made a statement to this effect: "We don't have to worry about the environment because Jesus is coming back soon." What is the logic of that argument? How would you respond to it?

How you do anything is how you do everything. Your "character" or "nature" just refers to how you handle all the day-to-day things in life, no matter how small.
— Derek Sivers

To me the way that we treat anything that God has given us is indicative
of how we will treat everything that He has given us. To blatantly
disregard our stewardship of this earth because Jesus is coming is to
misunderstand the Jesus that comes. We have to understand that we live
in between this world and the next world, and what we do here is
preparation for the world to come.

Prayer: Father thank you for your loving kindness and your goodness towards us. Please help us to understand what it means to be God stewards of your creation. Please prepare us to live with you forever in heaven. Thank you in Jesus name amen.

"The Little Horn and Revelation"

Watch the devotional now:

Summary: Of all the empires listed in Daniel 8, why is the little horn given far more detail than all the rest? How does the book of Revelation shed light on this chapter?

Verse: "And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of the sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered."
—Daniel 8:10-12
