Sabbath School Lesson - “With All Your Heart” |
Posted: 16 Mar 2010 01:48 AM PDT Read 2 Chronicles 25:2. What is that text saying? What important point is being made about what's inside us? This passage presents to us the idea that one can do right yet not with the whole heart. Amaziah still had a reserve for something else that had partial control of his will and his desires. God wants us to love Him with everything that we have. (Deut. 6:5) Our hearts can be divided over many things , somethings it is divided because we what material possessions, but we must seek first the kingdom of God (Mat 6:33) Our hearts may also be divided because we are trying to keep some of the practices of the world and still serve God. We are told not to be conformed to the world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Rom 12:2). Also the scriptures warn us against loving the world (1 Jon. 2:15) God is looking for people who love Him completely and have no reservations (2 Chron. 16:9)We may not even fully realize that we have a divided heart but if we ask God for help he will grant us the help that we need. How sincere are you in your faith? We're not talking about occasional doubts, or having deep unanswered questions (everyone at times has doubts, and all have deep unanswered questions), nor are we talking about struggling with sin. Instead, we're talking about your heart. Is it fully committed to God, "complete" before Him, or is it divided between God and something of the world? If it is the latter, what choices must you make? We are all in danger of serving God out of a divided heart and even when we think we are not we must be careful because the heart is deceitfully wicked (Jer 17:9) Also if we think we are not we must take be careful that we continue to trust God for strength (1 Cor. 10:12) We must yield ourselves to God and allow him to work through us (Rom 6:12) When we yield to Him He will give is the desire and he actually work through us to do the things which are pleasing to him (Phil. 2:13) Prayer: Father we want yo serve you from an undivided heart. Please help us to see all the areas where we are withholding from you our protecting from you. I ask also that you may grant us power to yield these areas over to you. We ask that you please help us , us because we know that you are mighty to save! We as these things in Jesus name Amen. |
Posted: 15 Mar 2010 08:05 AM PDT " 'However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth' " (John 16:13, NJKV). In view of what we learned yesterday, it is obvious that the work of the Holy Spirit is to point us to Christ and to help us abide in Him. " 'But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me' " (John 15:26, NKJV). Look at this powerful insight: "The preaching of the word will be of no avail without the continual presence and aid of the Holy Spirit. This is the only effectual teacher of divine truth. Only when the truth is accompanied to the heart by the Spirit will it quicken the conscience or transform the life. One might be able to present the letter of the word of God, he might be familiar with all its commands and promises; but unless the Holy Spirit sets home the truth, no souls will fall on the Rock and be broken."—Ellen G. White, The Desire of Ages, pp. 671, 672. What emphasis is Ellen G. White placing on the work of the Holy Spirit here? The Holy Spirit is the one who does the work of convicting those who hear the the word of God. We may be able to preach beautiful sermons but without the aid of the Holy Spirit no one will ever be moved to make a decision for Christ. Truth is good , but it takes the Holy Spirit to drive this truth home to those who hear it. As we preach , as we teach as we share truth with others lets us also pray for the Spirit of Truth that those we minister to may be convicted. ---- What we see in the work of the Holy Spirit is both the objective and subjective aspect of Truth. The Spirit comes, and He testifies of Jesus and reproves " 'the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment' " (John 16:8). These are hard facts about the world, about God, about reality. At the same time, the work of the Holy Spirit doesn't end simply with teaching us these truths. Our lives need to be changed by our understanding of them. These objective and eternal truths will do us no good unless our lives are transformed by them, and part of that process (perhaps even the most important part) is for us, as she wrote, to be broken on the Rock (see Ps. 51:17). --- How were you broken (or were you ever)? What happened? What changes came? What did you learn about life, about suffering, about God from that experience? What other lessons might you still need to learn? When we first give our lives over to Jesus Christ it takes some breaking in order for us to become who He wants us to be. We have to set aside old habits and old ways and ask Him to just take us and make us into who He wants us to be. Even as we grow in Christ we still have experiences were He allows us to be broken. When we go through these experiences then our faith become strengthened and we learn to trust God more. They may be painful but we learn to love Jesus all the more , and we are better off in the end. Prayer: Father thank you for the Spirit of Truth we need Him when we study you word and we we share you word with others. I pray Father that you will bring us to a greater understanding of what truth is and that we will be changed by that understanding. Thank you Father in Jesus name I pray amen. |
