Sabbath School Lesson - Meek and Lowly in Heart

Meek and Lowly in Heart

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matt. 11:29). What is Jesus telling us here? How can being meek and lowly in heart bring rest to our souls

There is a restlessness in the soul of the individual who is
always , in a struggle for power and for control. There is
something about the activity of striving for power which
leaves a person unsettled , in their spirit.

By relinquishing this attitude and learning of the meekness
of Jesus, we find a rest which quites our power hungry
souls. Meekness is not the absence of power , but it is
power under control. Meekness gives you rest because you
are not tempted by power, because you recognize developing
meekness is the greatest power of all.

Read Romans 12:3. How is the idea of meekness represented here? In what ways is this the key to being meek?

Meekness has to deal a lot with how you perceive yourself.
If you believe that you are the most important person
in the world and everyone must bow to you , then this
will make meekness difficult. Therefore we must seek
to be humble minded , and recognize that it is Gods
grace that enables us to do anything that we have done and
to be anything that we may be. Recognizing the source of
your blessing keep us humble and meek.

Think about how utterly dependent you are upon God for everything. Where, then, does that pride and arrogance in your heart come from, and how can you get rid of it?

In reality the same spirit which causes us to be prideful and
arrogant originated with Satan and ,this spirit is what caused
him to be cast out of heaven. We must direct praise from
ourselves to God, and we must never forget from where our
blessings come from.

We can do nothing without God , and we are nothing without
God. All that we have and all that we have done are a
result of his mercy and a result of His blessings. We
should not forget this, and keeping this before our minds
will help us to be meek.

Prayer: Father we thank you for all that you have done for us. Please help us to learn of Jesus who was meek and lowly in heart. Remove from us all pride , and arrogance and may you be glorified by our lives. Thank you in Jesus name amen.
