Sabbath School Lesson - Kindness to a “Dead Dog”

Kindness to a “Dead Dog”

Read 2 Samuel 9:1-13. How did David show kindness here? How did he, by this act, reveal the character of God?

David wanted to find someone who was left in the house of Saul so that he
may show them kindness to honor Jonothan. One of Davids servants named
Ziba knew about one person left named Mephibosheth.

David took Mephibosheth in and took care of him and allowed him to eat
at the table of the king regularly. Mephibosheth was humble and wondered
why the king would show kindness to such a person like him.

In the same way we have been crippled by sin, and we are lame in the
feet. Even though we have often been in rebellion when recognize our need
because of Jesus, we are invited to partake of the kings table.

God is looking for someone to bless, someone to bring to His banquet
feast. It is not because you have done everything perfectly but it
is simply because of the kindness of God and the blood of Jesus.

Before we can pass on God's kindness to others, what must we first recognize? See Luke 7:47. What crucial principle is found here that can play an important role in helping us understand the whole question of kindness to others?

We must pause and take a long look at the way God has been merciful,
gracious , and loving toward us. We must understand the precious
gift given to us in Jesus Christ. Those who have been forgiven much
must , show this same type of mercy and kindness.

Out of gratitude for the goodness of God we must seek to extend
the love , and kindness first shown to us to other people. To act
in an unkind, unforgiving reveals a lack of understand and to how
realization to much we have actually been forgiven.

What things has God forgiven you for over the years? How should that realization help you treat those who have done things to hurt you?

God is so good at taking broken humanity and restoring them to
to His image that it is easy to forget from where they were before
He changed them. One thing that we must remember is that we
are all products of God's grace. We must seek to allow our lives to
be seasoned with the grace of God, and allow this to overflow and
interfere with everything that we do.

Prayer: Father we have truly been forgiven so much, but why do we love so little? Why do we hate so much , why are we so thankless? Father crucify this flesh, put to death these earthly lusts. Give us the heart of Jesus , help us to love as He loved and to live as He lived. Purify us Father and renew us that we we may be your witnesses here on this earth. Teach us oh God and we will do , lead us and we will go. Thank you. In Jesus name I pray amen.
