Sabbath School Lesson - Finding Peace: Part 2 |
Posted: 19 Jan 2010 06:27 AM PST Read the story recorded in Matthew 8:23–27 of Jesus and His disciples on the Sea of Galilee (see also Mark 4:35–41, Luke 8:22–25). However unique the situation, what can we take away from this account for ourselves; that is, what is the message for us, and how can we apply it to our lives, regardless of our situation?    This story of Jesus calming the sea has many wonderful applications    which can be used to help up have peace in the midst of the    storm.       There is a stark contrast to the the response of the disciples    to this storm and the response of Jesus. The disciples are    distressed because they believe that this storm is going to    kill them, but Jesus is peacefully sleeping.       Jesus rests peacefully because he understands and trusts completely    in the power of His heavenly Father. The disciples reveal that    they are living in a state of unrest , also revealing that    they have not idea who Jesus really is.       Just as Jesus was able to rest in the midst of the storm , we    too may be at peace in the midst of the storm. We must understand    who it is we have on the boat with us and understand that on    His watch we all make it to the other side.    What types of things make you upset? Talk to God about your deepest fears. Call them by name. Ask the Lord to help you get in touch with the fear and identify it. Then take time to allow Him to begin to speak peace gently to those fears.       We must understand that God has not given us the spirit of fear    but love power and a sound mind. When we succumb to fear then we    leave an area open in our lives which the devil then has power    to control. Our God is powerful, and no matter what fears we have    He is well able to deal with them. Wont you trust him?    Prayer: Father thank you for your peace. I pray that you will help us to be at peace in the midst of the storms of life. Please help us to face all our fears and conquer them by the power of the blood of Jesus. In Jesus name I pray amen.
