Sabbath School Lesson - Finding Peace: Part 1

Finding Peace: Part 1

Posted: 18 Jan 2010 02:52 AM PST

Read the following verses: "'Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls'"(Matt. 11:28, 29, NKJV). What is Jesus saying to us here? How can we experience for ourselves the reality of this wonderful promise?

This passage is talking about a rest which is a rest for the
the soul. This type of rest is one which encompasses the the
entire being. This rest is a deep settling one which pours over
us a divine peace which can only be found In Jesus Christ.

When the text says come unto me all ye that labor and are
heavy laden it speaks of the weariness of the human condition.
Many are laboring in this world for various things
but Jesus is the one thing that we need in the midst of all
   these other things.

In this promise Jesus invites us to yoke up with Him , and to
learn of Him.To yoke up with Jesus is to be obedient to His
commands. To yoke up with Him is to work together with in
in service for lost humanity. To yoke up with Him is to learn
   from His ministry and example.

This is a divine call to turn to Jesus and to surrender your
lives to Him to receive His life. The life linked up with
Jesus is a life of comprehensive rest for the entire soul.
Jesus is the only one that can provide this peace.

How does love of self lead to personal unrest and unhappiness?

The self has an insatiable desire for more. There is no way
to please the self with earthly things to the point where it
   will be satisfied.

Therefore unrest is enduced because the self can not be
pleased by human inventions. The self must be crucified and
we must find our find our rest and happiness in Jesus.

How can we learn to die to self and to rest in Jesus? What choices do we have to make, every day, that can help make the promise of peace in Christ real? That is, what things are we doing, or not doing, that keep us from having the peace that Jesus offers us?

Any many who is thirsty and refuses a glass of water is a man
who either does not understand his thirst or does not understand
the satisfying qualities of the water.

Likewise we must understand our condition as sinners and understand
the ability of Jesus to remedy us from those conditions.

Our true condition is revealed to us by the study of God's word.
We understand more about who Jesus is by the study of His word.
Daily devotion and application of our devotions in daily living
is a process which makes Christianity practical.

Prayer: Father thank you for all that you have done. I pray that we will remember to continue to come to you the author and the finisher of our faith. May we find a divine dissatisfaction with the things of this world and run with unrelenting speed into your loving care. Thank you in Jesus name amen.
