Sabbath School Lesson - Unnatural Confrontation |
Posted: 01 Dec 2009 05:14 AM PST Read Numbers 22:22–34 and answer the following questions: * What symbolic significance might there be to the fact that the dumb animal was able to see the angel of the Lord and that Balaam, a supposed prophet of God, couldn't? See Zeph. 1:17, Matt. 15:14, Rev. 3:17.       The animal was obedient to God but the prophet was not obedient    to God. Though animals do not possess the intelligence of humans    this animal still possessed enough intelligence to obey God.       The prophet was blinded to what was in plain sight because of    His disobedience to what God wanted Him to do. When we refuse to    be obedient that which is in plain sight often becomes hidden.    * Read Balaam's first response to the donkey after it spoke to him. Think about what was happening. What does Balaam's irrational response reveal about the true nature of his heart and his desire for wealth? After all, what would most people do were an animal to start conversing with them?       When you choose to Go against the will of God then you are open    to deception and delusion. This reminds me of story of Jonah, he    was more willing to be thrown off the ship than to simply go    where God commissioned him to God.       The simple fact is that Balaams senses were clouded because of    his disobedience to God. * How does this story reveal God's grace, even to Balaam, despite his course of action?       This shows that God is very merciful unto us. God is in the    business of saving people. God is a professional at saving    people and He will do whatever it takes to ensure your salvation.       Even if God has to cause a donkey to talk in order to get you    you understand something he will.We serve an awesome God he    loves us so much.    In what ways, even the most subtle ways, do you find yourself fighting against the Lord? That is, you're determined to do what you want even though you know it's not what God wants. How can you overcome this dangerous attitude?       The best thing to do is to simply let go and let God. God really    knows what is best for our lives. It is very hard when you    have moved in a direction for so long. I believe that God will    help us just has He helped ballam , but we must listen.       It takes courage , it takes commitment and it takes trust.    Prayer: Today Father if anyone is struggling with making a decision to do something your way I pray you will grant them freedom from rebellion. Father if You need to send a donkey to speak to them please do, but please turn them back to You. Thank you for your grace , thank You for Your love. In Jesus name amen. |
