Sabbath School Lesson

The Sin of Ingratitude

Posted: 25 Oct 2009 05:34 AM PDT

What does this incident tell us about the importance of not forgetting how the Lord has led us in the past?

This incident lets us know it is important not to forget the way the Lord
has lead us in the past because it makes us despise the Lords provision.
When we forget what He has done for us in the past we complain
and doubt that He can still do that same thing today.

The victory that God accomplished in delivering the children of Israel
from Egypt was a nothing short of a miracle. But now they themselves
complaining about the Lord provisions for them. They did not want that
which God had provided for them. To forget what the Lord has done is
   to forget God.

How do we understand the Lord's reaction to them

The Lord at first responded in sending a burning fire to the camp.
I assume if Moses had not prayed the fire would have consumed them.
In addition to the fire the Lord sent them the quail that they wanted
in order to teach them a lesson.

Often times because of our stubbornness the Lord will give us that
which many not be best for us. God had perfectly provided
for their needs in the wilderness but what God had provided was not
good enough for them. When the provision of God is not good enough
then nothing is good enough. God taught them a lesson in giving them
   what they asked for.

What can we learn from this account about the importance of controlling our appetites?

Your appetite will get you into trouble as we can see in this passage.
Because of their appetite they did not want the food that God provided.
Their appetites were still in Egypt , and this made it difficult for
them to accept the provision of God.We must put our entire being in
submission to the will of God, including our appetites.

There's a saying, "Be careful what you ask for or pray for; you might get it." What does that mean, and what can we learn from it for ourselves?

As we can see from this passage the people got what they asked for.
What the people asked for was not what God wanted for them. When
we harass God for that which He has not intended to give us
He may give it to us in order to teach us a lesson.

We must submit all our desires to God so that we will not be in    submission to our desires.

Prayer: Father help us to remember where you have lead us in the past , let us not despise your provision in the present. Teach us to trust in your may we submit your appetites to you. Thank you Father in Jesus name amen.
