Read Matthew 25:14-30. What basic message about stewardship do you take from Jesus' words here? This is one of the most amazing passages of scripture when it comes to understanding
the requirements that God has upon us in terms of our abilities and talents. There are
a number of principles that can be extracted from this salient passage.
The fist thing we must understand is that money which was given to the servants
was not theirs. This money which was given them was something which was entrusted
to them according to their ability.
When it comes to stewardship we must understanding that what God has given us
is a not ours but it has been entrusted to us for his purposes. And also what has been
given to you has been give because God has enabled you to effectively handle it.
We each have different personalties and characters and upbringings and so forth which
equip us to handle things differently. God is the one that understands who can handle
what gifts and abilities and who is the one who can not.
Another lesson we see is that that the master expects a return on the talents that He
has entrusted to His servants. When the Master came back He did not want to hear
excuses he just wanted to receive the return on His investment.
In the same way God expects us to faithfully use the talents and abilities that He has
given us. We are not to complain because of the one talent but we must faithfully
use that talent, multiplying it be use.
The essential lesson of this passage on stewardship is , your talents are a gifts meant
to be given away weather big or small.
What are your gifts? Even more important, what are you doing with them?
Are you using them to serve only yourself and your own desires, or are you
using them also in service of the Lord? Why is this question so important?
I have often struggled with this because I believe that I have been
gifted with many things. But I know as I seek to be faithful to God
that He will lead me in the correct direction. Sometimes we are tempted
to use the things which God has given us for our own selfish purposes
to serve our own desires. The tragedy is that if we do not entrust our
talents for Christ we yield them over to be used by the enemy.
It is important to understand how to use faithfully what God has given you
because it has been entrusted to you. We must pray and ask God's
wisdom on the matter of our talents and we must clearly understand how
to use those for he glory.
Prayer: Father thank you for your faith in us that you entrusted us with your
talents. Father forgive us for our neglect of your gifts , help us to uncover the
gifts and begin to trade them and multiply them. Grant us wisdom to effectively
use what you have given. Thank you in Jesus name I pray amen.
