Sabbath School Lesson - That It May Bear More Fruit

Sabbath School Lesson - That It May Bear More Fruit

That It May Bear More Fruit

Posted: 30 Dec 2009 08:25 AM PST

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit' " (John 15:2, NKJV). What is this pruning process all about? How have you experienced it yourself? When that specific process ended, in what ways were you different from before it began

To prune means to remove anything considered unnecessary or undesirable.
When these things which are necessary or undesirable are removed it
makes room for greater fruitfulness. The husbandman in his wisdom
and experience understands what is necessary and unnecessary for the
   greatest harvest of fruit.

In the same way Jesus desires to prune us. There are things in our
characters and in our lives which are necessary and undesirable.
When these things are removed it allows us to to bear more fruit.
The pruning process can be painful , but in the end it enables
   to be more fruitful.

I believe that I am experiencing this pruning process right now.
God wants to make me more fruitful for His Glory ,and though
I understand this the process is painful. The only way that the
process ends is when we all have a greater likeness to Jesus.
The end of this process is eternity in heaven with Jesus.

Have you ever had a trial that severely tested your faith, even to the point where you wondered if you really even had faith? Looking back, what lessons should you have learned from that experience? Most importantly, did you learn them?

Yes I have experienced being severely tested. The only thing
that saved me was Jesus. In some ways I am being severely tested
now. This lesson has reminded me of the process that we are all
engaged in as Christians. When I think of the tests of the past
I am encouraged and strengthened. I have learned to trust God,
He knows what He is doing.

Prayer: Father thank you for the pruning process. We hate this process and it hurts us , it embarrasses us and its uncomfortable. Father but we commit our lives into your hands, you possess the wisdom to make us more fruitful. Father may we rest in you. Thank you for your love.In Jesus name amen

Sabbath School Lesson - By This My Father Is Glorified

Sabbath School Lesson - By This My Father Is Glorified

By This My Father Is Glorified

Posted: 29 Dec 2009 09:09 AM PST

" 'By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples' " (John 15:8, NKJV). What does this text mean?

I believe that when the Character of Jesus Christ is seen
in individuals this bring glory to God. It shows that He is able
to restore fallen humanity, it is also a testimony about the type
   of person that God is.

When a person manifests the fruits of the Spirit this is one
more avenue that God has in order to work for the salvation
of humanity. In this way God is glorified in the fact that
   we bear much fruit.

Christ's ministry, which included many miracles and good works, had a definite driving force. What was that force, and how should this idea influence what our motives should be?(John 11:4, 12:28)

When we examine what the motives of Christ were for the miracles
which He did we must seek to model that. The motive that Christ had
was so that His Father may be glorified. Jesus did not seek to
do miracles to draw glory to Himself but to direct glory to His
   Father

With this example we must seek to do things for the same motives.
What things will give glory to God , and direct people toward Him?
Whatever these things are these are the things which we should
seek after. Underlining all over our actions there must be only
one alterior motive , and that is to glorify God.

Read Matthew 5:16 and 1 Corinthians 10:31. How can we create good will and give the glory to our Father in heaven at the same time? Bear in mind that it is possible to create good will and leave the Father out, taking the credit for ourselves. Examine your own heart and ask yourself what really motivates some of your actions. How might you be fooling yourself?

The sad condition of humanity is that even in our best and
greatest efforts our good deeds are stained with the marks
or sin. We must be in a continual process of looking to Jesus
the author and the finisher of our faith. We must soberly
examine ourselves in the light of the character of Christ
   as presented in the scriptures.

When we find that we are faltering ask God for strength and
pray that he reconciles our personality.God knows the heart
and the best thing for us is to continue seek Him and ask
   and give a greater surrender.

Prayer: Father we ask you to please purify our motives. We know all our righteousness are as filthy rags. Cover us all in the righteousness of Christ. Thank you Father in Jesus name Amen.

The Filters Through Which We View the World - December 29, 2009

"The Filters Through Which We View the World"

Watch the devotional now

Summary: We each approach the world with our own set of filters. All our experiences lay down neural pathways, and whatever we see and hear is somewhat molded based our personal history. This verse is a Messianic prophecy that points us forward to Jesus. It says that He can see the whole truth of a matter and isn't so quick to make a decision based on first appearances.

Verse: "There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears."
—Isaiah 11:1-3
