| Posted: 16 Sep 2009 04:51 AM PDT The Bible sees great value in hospitality (Heb. 13:2, 1 Pet. 4:9). Jesus mingled with tax collectors, Pharisees, and others who may not always have had their theology or their lifestyle straight. How does such a call fit with what John is saying in 2 John 10, 11? See also Matt. 10:14, 15; 18:15-17.       We have to make a distinction between believers and unbelievers.    I believe that in this passage that John is talking about those    who are already apart of the household of faith. He is not    addressing those who have not herd the doctrines and teachings of    Christ.       Apart of the great commission is to teach and to make disciples.    When Jesus went to these various people His purpose was to teach    them and cause them to want to follow Him. By no means is john    talking about having a exclusive mentality to those that don't    have the same beliefs as us.       I believe that John is specifically warning against false teachers    and those who profess to be Christians but don't follow Christ.    Think about how your actions impact others. Think about how easily your example can influence others for good or for evil. What kind of example of Christ do you present? In what ways could you do better?       This is something which is important , a question that we must all    answer. The key is how are we to live a life which impacts others.    In order to live a life which impacts others we must live an    impacted life. By this I mean we must live lives which have been    first impacted by Jesus. When we live a life impacted by Jesus    we can then impact others. Prayer: Father please guard us from the deception of false teachers. Help us to be more like you in all that we do. Thank you in Jesus name I pray amen. |
