Sabbath School Lesson - The Living Water |
| Posted: 19 Apr 2010 02:52 AM PDT Read John 4:1–26. What are the different ways water is used in this story? What do the different kind of waters mean? What message is there from this story for us today? In this passage Jesus is using water in order to illustrate a truth to the woman of Samaria. He takes advantage of the fact that they are next to a well and asks the woman to give Him something to drink. The water that Jesus is asking for is physical water to quench His thirst. This is the same type of water that the woman came to the well for. Jesus uses this well in order to introduce to the woman a different kind of water. Jesus want's to introduce a gift to her which is from God. This gift is living water. Jesus contrasts the water form the well with the water that He has to offer. The water that Jesus has to offer is spiritual water. This spiritual water has the ability to quench the soul. When we think of ministering to a persons needs Jesus illustrates how we must come near to their situation. Jesus used the thirst of the woman to show that she needed a thirst for Him. He took the natural and used it to reveal the supernatural. We all have sought our thirst to be quenched by the waters of this world and we find ourselves still wanting more. Jesus offers us the gift of living water which grants us satisfaction and contentment. No question, Jesus offers all of us this Living Water. What has your own experience with this water been? How have you known for yourself the benefits and promises found in it? Are you taking of it freely, or are you holding yourself somewhat back? If the latter, ask yourself why. Whatever immediate "gains" you might think you are getting from holding back, how could they possibly compare to promises offered us in Jesus? Prayer: Father thank you for the living water that you offer us in Jesus Christ. I pray that you may help us to turn from the things of this earth and turn to you. Fill our cup's Lord that we want no more, thank you Father in Jesus name amen. I would like this living water |
