Sabbath School Lesson - The Benefits of Physical Exercise: Part 1 |
| The Benefits of Physical Exercise: Part 1 Posted: 15 Apr 2010 04:58 AM PDT Read 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20. What is Paul saying there? How might the question of physical exercise be linked to these verses? This verse says that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. When we think of the temple we are presented with lots of imagery. The temple was something which was carefully cared for and something which was even guarded and projected by the levities. Most importantly this was the place where God came to meet His people. In the same way we must realize that our body temples must be cared for and must be protect it because it is the channel that God uses to interact with us and the world. Also this passage helps us to understand that because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit we should honor him with our bodies. By honoring God with our bodies we must do that which will keep them in the best of shape. This would included eating properly resting and physical exercise. Though many folk are busy, we are commanded by God to take care of ourselves, and exercise is one important way we can do it. What about you? How much time do you spend exercising? What excuses do you use to get out of doing it? Many people lead busy lives and this is and excuse that is used for not getting out to exercise. But if we are not in good shape it actually diminishes our quality of life, and our attitude about life. When we look at the benefits of exercise it should motivate us. Most importantly we should look to honor God with all we have including our bodies. Prayer: Thank you Father that you have fearfully and wonderfully created us. Help us to honor you with our bodies and help us to make more time for exercise. In Jesus name amen. |
