Sabbath School Lesson - Further Study: |
| Posted: 04 Dec 2009 04:15 AM PST What are some other spiritual lessons we can take away from the story of Balaam? What does it teach, for instance, about God's sovereignty, about human free will and God's providence, or about human sinfulness?    The story of Ballam is full of many interesting applications and    lessons for us today. In this story can see the result of what    happens when one strays away to follow their on desires contrary    to the commands of God.       All of us at one point in our lives had been motivated by the same    spirit which motivated Ballam and it is by the grace of God that    He saved us from our folly. We must every be watching and praying,    also we must stay busy for God least we become entangled with the enemy.       This story shows the protection of Gods's people who choose to be    faithful to Him. There are many who are overly concerned about the    conspiracies to overthrow God's people , but their obedience to God    protects then from any such attack.       Ultimately God is in control and just as He used a donkey to deliver    a message to Ballam , He used Ballam to deliver a message about the    first coming of Jesus Christ. Today we must submit to God , and    sacrifice those things which are least to gain those things which    are most. Dwell more on this idea of the "death of the righteous." If you were to die today, would it be a "death of the righteous"? Justify your answer.       Any righteousness that we are to claim is that which we have    received from Jesus Christ. The righteousness that we have is what    we gain by accepting what Christ has done for us on the cross.    Today we claim that righteousness by faith, by faith we receive    a total transformative cleansing by the precious blood of Jesus.       Each day we make this type of submission to Christ we can claim    His righteousness. This continual type of submission to Christ    produces a life which can be marked with the life of God.    Therefore this person day bay day being shaped , molded and    fashioned more and more into the image of Christ. In this process    of submission, living, surrendering we can see a person made being    righteous by Jesus Christ.    Money is such an incredibly corrupting influence in all areas of life, including our religious life. How can we, as Christians, protect ourselves, our faith, and our church from the potentially corrupting influence of money?       I believe that God has given us two things that can help us from    being corrupted by the influence of money. The first things is    to cultivate a spirit of contentment. The reason that many are    influenced by money is because they have not learned to be content       We have a an insatiable desire for more , and even more things to    go bigger , and to get larger. This desire to have the newest    and the latest things often leads us to desire after money    to have these things.       I must note that what we really want is happiness acceptance    love and belonging. And we many times associate these    values we want with things. We believe that if we have    money then we can get the things that will add to use these    values.       The second thing that we can do is learn to give. The more you    give the more the spirit of selfishness is starved away    from you. In cultivating a giving attitude then you can    help prevent from being influenced by the power of greed and    money.       When God finds that you are the type of person who uses His    gifts to be a blessing to other people, then He will bless    you with more. Often we believe the way to gain more is to    keep but in God's book the way to gain is to give away.    Read Jude 11 and Revelation 2:14, which, aside from the verses we already looked at in 2 Peter, are the only other New Testament references to Balaam. What can we learn from them that can help us better understand where Balaam went astray?       Ballam went wrong when he became a man that could be bought. Ballam    was willing to curse God's people in order to satisfy his desire    for monetary gain. Ballam had misplaced values and because of this    he was willing to do whatever it took to get what he wanted.    Prayer: Father I pray that you will have mercy upon our souls. Let us not be enticed by the sin of Ballam but please help us to cultivate giving , and contented attitudes in life. Thank you for this week of study and please my you find us prepared for your Holy Sabbath. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
