Sabbath School Lesson - Behind the Scenes |
| Posted: 07 Dec 2009 05:11 AM PST Read Revelation 2:14 and Numbers 31:16. What insight do they give us into what was going on here with Israel at Shittim? How does this help us understand how they fell?       When we read revelation it reveals to us that Ballam and balak had    something to do with the the children of Israel going into apostasy.    Numbers tells us that is was through the counsel of Ballam that the    children of Israel were caused to transgress       As we read last week Ballam and Balak realized that they would not    be able to curse the children of Israel as long as they had the    Lord's protection. The Lord's protection was given to them as    long as they were obedient to His commands.    Time and time again we see the same principle at play: God doing so much for His people, God promising so much to His people, and they—in response—destroying themselves. What about you? What has God promised you, and how are you responding to those promises?       It is so easy to look at the children of Israel and point the finger.    But this is true we do the same thing so many times. We experience    Gods protection and deliverance and then we forget and fall back into    sin. We must watch and pray least we fall into temptation. We must    take hold of the power of God daily so that we can have strength    to resist the wiles of the devil.    Prayer: Father thank you today for your precious promises and for your protection. Father we want to be obedient to your work, we want to take hold of your promises. Grant us strength to trust you, protect us from the enemies wiles and dangerous associations. Thank you Father in Jesus name amen. |
| Posted: 06 Dec 2009 10:15 AM PST Read Numbers 25:1–3. What were the steps involved here in this apostasy? How did something so terrible happen?       The first thing that I see that they did wrong was remain at    Shittim. The stayed in a place where they were just supposed    to pass through and they took their first spiral toward    apostasy.       As they remined there in Shittim they began to adopt the practices    the people there. They began to participate in their worship    services. The people of Israel had become so comfortable that they    lost the distinction between them and the surrounding nation.       The began to worship the Gods of of this other nation and then    they eventually joined themselves to Baal of Peor.       1. They settled in the wrong place    2. The became to comfortable with sin    3. They disconnected themselves from God.    4. They joined themselves with a false God.    Read 1 Corinthians 10:1–14. How can we apply the lessons there to ourselves, today, in whatever situation we are in? What similar temptations do we face in our own contexts? What promise can we take from these words and make our own       From this passage we understand that with every temptation God    provides a way of escape. No matter how difficult the situation    may seem we can rest on the promise of God's word that we will    find the help that we need to be victorious in any situation.    We also have the example of those who have gone before us    we can learn from their example and live a more conscious life.    Prayer: Today some of us may find ourselves tied up in a relationships on the brink of apostasy. Today we may have settled in the wrong place and have taken on foreign customs. Father please open up our blinded vision and grant us grace to remove ourselves from this temptation. Seal our fidelity to you with the power of your precious blood. Thank you in Jesus name Amen. |
