| Posted: 07 Oct 2009 04:16 AM PDT What vow could a commoner (woman or man) take to devote a specific period of time to the Lord? Num. 6:1-21. What spiritual lessons can we take from this for ourselves today, in the context of deepening our own spirituality and our commitment to the Lord?       From this vow of consecration we learn that we can see some very    important things in order to deepen our own spirituality. Here    we see that the individual can make and in their vow they will    have to abstain from several things.       In addition to abstaining from certain products they were also    required to not cut their hair and not touch any dead bodies.    Even if a family member died suddenly they were not allowed    to defile themselves because they were holy unto the Lord.       We can always deepen our relationship with God by the means of    sacrifice. In order to draw closer to God we will also often    have to remove certain things from our lives. Many will not    be able to find the time to draw closer to God because the    are unwilling to make the necessary sacrifices.    How do we, as Adventists, live in anticipation of a better country, regardless of whatever country we are living in now? What are concrete ways that we can protect ourselves from getting so caught up with our vineyards here that we lose sight of our final destination?       We must constantly keep this reality before , we must not    let our lives get caught up in the cares of this country.    We can keep ourselves from this danger but focusing on    the mission of the Church. The mission of the Church is to    prepare people for that better country.       We must lay up our treasures in heaven in order to desire    heaven more than this earth. We will begin to desire the place    where we have for so long stored our treasures. As we consecrate    ourselves to God we will seal our citizenship to heaven    and we will feel more like a foreigners in a strange land.    Prayer: Father I pray that you will separate us unto yourself. We desire to be citizens of the heavenly land. I pray that we will not be caught up in the things of this earth to the extent that we miss out on the things of heaven. We give our all to you today. In Jesus name amen. |
