Marital Fidelity

Posted: 06 Oct 2009 02:07 AM PDT

Read Numbers 5:11-31. How are we to understand this today?

Overall God in this passage is showing how serious He takes the
marriage institution. Today this practice would not work but we
can extract some of the principles to help us today.

Today in a marriage when the spirit of jealousy comes over an
individual it may or not be because of marital unfaithfulness.
But if there is in fact unfaithfulness the natural effect
of unfaithfulness brings a curse to the relationship.

Although today there is no elaborate ceremony to determine if one
party has committed adultery , when it does happen it defiantly
affects the relationship. God has designed in the natural laws of
   things comprable consequences.

How was this procedure also a protection for the woman, who could be the victim of a husband's unwarranted jealousy?

This problem was taken care of because if the woman was innocent then
the curse would have not effect over her. This is good because her
punishment was not based upon the husbands jealousy alone. God
placed checks and balances on the husbands feelings of jealousy with
   the ceremony that He instituted.

What things can you do, what choices can you make, to enable you to have a pure heart?

The best choice that can be made for our pure heart is the choice of
obedience. In order to maintain our purity we must also seek to
feed into our spiritual life with prayer and bible study outreach.
And ultimately our purity is found in Jesus Christ. He is the
pure one, and as our lives rest securely in His care it enables us
   to live holy lives.

Prayer: Father thank you today for the care that you have for the marriage institution.Father help us to take marriage seriously. Make us pure for your glory , remove all that is evil from our hearts. Cover us in the blood of Jesus. Thank you in Jesus name amen.
