| Posted: 05 Oct 2009 05:15 AM PDT When an Israelite sinned against a person in the camp, whom did they really sin against? Num. 5:6; see also Ps. 51:3, 4. How do we understand this concept?       The bible declares that when a person commits a sin against mankind    that this sin is actually against the Lord. This is further explained    when David confesses His sin and acknowledges that his sin was    only against God.       It is for this very reason that the treatment of your neighbor is    linked to your treatment of God. Jesus says "Whatsoever you have    done to the least of these you have done it unto me" (Mat 25:45)       What was the guilty person to do? Num. 5:6-8; see also Ezek. 33:15 and Luke 19:8, 9.       Num. 5:6-8       The person who sins against God and their neighbor is required    to do two things. The first thing they are required to do is to    confess, the second things is to make restitution.       If the person is unable to make restitution to that individual    the restitution must go to the Lord by the priest. This shows    again that sins against man and sins against God are connected.       Ezek. 33:15       This passage is talking about the punishment of a wicked man.    That punishment will be stayed if the wicked man turns from his    wickedness to practice justice and righteousness.       The wicked man should pay back what he has robbed, walk by the    statutes, and he shall surely live and not die.       Luke 19:8, 9       In this passage Jesus is giving instruction to the seventy that    He is sending out. He says to them that wherever a person receives    them in a city they are to heal their sick and this act declares kingdom    of God has come near.       This statement shows that ministry to others we can see a defining    mark of God's kingdom. Therefore when we must learn to treat others    as we would treat God because they are intimately connected.    Keeping in mind what Jesus has done to make things right between you and God, what do you need to do to make things right with someone whom you might be in conflict with?       The key word for these types of situation is forgiveness. Colossians    3:13 says that"Just as the lord forgave you, so also should you"    Our ability to forgive comes from that fact that Christ has forgiven    us. It may be difficult to forgive at times in a conflict but we must    ask God's grace and strength to do what is right.    Prayer: Father we have sinned against you when we have sinned against our neighbor.Help us to see where we have done wrong and make restitution. Help us to truly love our neighbors as ourselves. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
