| Bearing Witness About Demetrius Posted: 23 Sep 2009 03:09 AM PDT Read 3 John 11. Why would John write this when he did? What important point is he making here, especially given the context, that of warning about a church leader who was acting contrary to the principles of Christ?       In the church which John is speaking to there was a leader who was    not following the example of Christ. This leader was a bad example    to all the believers. John wants to make it clear that those who    behave in this manor have not had an experience with Christ.       To see God is to know God and be changed by this encounter. What do we know about Demetrius? 3 John 12.       From what is told us about him we understand that He have a good    testimony. This means that people testify that he is a good leader    and that he is living a exemplary life.       Not only does the church testify about him, but John himself adds    to the good testimony about him. Demetrius wold be a good person    to imitate rather than Diotrephes.    Imagine someone giving a report about you and your Christian behavior. What would that person write, and why? Dwell on the implications of your answer.       We must seek to be more like Christ in all that we do. Christianity is    very simple, to be more like our master Jesus Christ. Our witness may    not be as good as it should be but, each day we are given opportunity    to live for God fully.    Prayer: Father God , which humility we come before you and ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness for taking your name in vain, forgiveness for bearing false witness. We need to be transformed inside out, please make us more like Jesus , and may we live out your life on this earth. Thank you in Jesus name amen. |
