| Going Beyond the Teaching of Christ Posted: 15 Sep 2009 03:03 AM PDT Read 2 John 7-9. What is John warning about here? What can be the results of falling for the deceptions he's warning about?       This passage is warning us about deceivers. A deceiver is someone    who misleads by a false appearance or statement. So John is warning    that there are many people who are in the world who seek to    mislead your by false appearances and statements.       Specifically the individuals in this passage deny that Jesus has    come in the flesh. This means that they deny the reality of Jesus'    humanity and His coming in this earth to make atonement for our    our sins.       John wants to remind the believers to abide in the teachings of    of Christ. To remain in the place where they are abiding will    protect them from those who seek to mislead them by deception.    The key is to continue to walk in the truth that Jesus taught. Read 2 John 9. What is he saying about the importance of having correct "doctrine"? See also Matt. 16:12; Acts 2:42; Rom. 6:17; Rev. 2:14, 15.    Your doctrines help you to know how to live your day to day life.    As Christians our Christianity can be seen in how our lives    resemble the life of Christ. When our doctrines are incorrect we    misrepresent Christ, and don't abide in His teachings.       And when it comes to the doctrine of Christ if we deny Christ then    we also deny the Father.    What has been your own experience with false teachers and false doctrines? Were you able to see, especially in the beginning, where these teachings could have led you? What have you learned from these experiences that could help others struggling with something similar?       One time or another we have all have had to deal with the issue of    false teachers. We must always test our teachings by the scriptures.    We must also not let our feelings determine our Christianity we must    allow the scriptures to speak and allow the Holy Spirit to lead.       I believe if we are seeking to be faithful to God He will help us to    not be lead astray. Prayer: Father I pray that you may help us to follow more closely to your word. Let us not be lead astray but help us to abide in you. Teach us , oh Lord. Thank you in Jesus name I pray amen. |
