Posted: 01 Sep 2009 04:27 AM PDT Read 1 John 5:14, 15. What promise do we have there? Most important, what should it mean to us? I would say that this is one of the most powerful promises in the bible. We really need to stop and ponder this one for a moment to see the power of it. The first thing we must understand is that God is all powerful , He created the heavens and the earth. The God that we serve has every possible resource known and unknown, natural and supernatural at his disposal. When we come before this God this is what He has to offer. And this is a promise which states that He will answer every request we ask of Him on the condition that it is His will. So the key is to determine if a request is according to His will , and we are guaranteed that the request will be granted of God. This is an amazing promise, I am tempted to theoligize it but it says exactly that it says. God will answer if we ask according to his will. We've all had prayers that have not come to pass in any way, shape, or form. A loved one dies despite prayer. A job is lost despite prayer. And so forth. In some cases, later on we can see how things really did turn out better when the prayer wasn't answered as we had wanted. In others, all we see is disappointment, heartache, and sorrow. How are we to deal with the latter? How are we to continue to live by faith and trust God when seemingly unanswered prayers leave us filled with sorrow, disappointment, and, yes, even doubt? These are very difficult questions to answer but I will site two simple bible promises. For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jer 29:11) (niv) God has promised that He has plans to prosper us and to give us a future, despite the way things look He has something great in mind The next promise is Rom. 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Despite the outcome God is working it out for our good. We may not always understand but God has everything under control. Prayer: Father thank you for the promise of answered prayer. Please help us to discern where you will is clear that we may receive with confidence the requests that we ask of you. Father help us to submit to your will in every situation. Thank you in Jesus name I pray amen. |
