In comparing the wishes of eve and    Satan with the promise in 1 John I notice they miss their    present reality.       They both miss the fact that being created of God that they    possess some of God's attributes. As children of God we    should resemble our father. The problem that they both had    was that the wanted to step outside to obtain a special    likeness to God which was not theirs to have.       The lesson brings out that they wanted the power of God but    they did not want the character of God. As Jesus was here on    this earth He perfectly represented the character of God.    Though he was God he was perfectly obedient to His Fathers    will. You can never be like God when you seek to do so by    disobedience and rebellion which is what Even and Satan    both attempted.    Think of the incredible contrast between the character of Jesus and the character of Satan. A created being, Satan sought a position higher than he had but for a purely personal and selfish motive, while Jesus—the Creator—chose to make Himself "of no reputation" (Phil. 2:7) all for the good of others. What's your natural tendency, to be more like Christ or more like Satan? If the latter, how can you change?       The natural tendency is to be like Satan because we are born    in sin and shaped in iniquity. When we become born again believers    then we posses the power to resist the tendency toward darkness.    In order to be more like Christ we must do the things that He    did. By following Christ's example daily we can resist our natural    tendency toward evil.    Prayer: Father in heaven thank you for Jesus Christ and for the promise that we can be you sons and daughters. Father help us to desire to be more like you in character in life. Thank you in Jesus name I pray amen. |
