Sabbath School Lesson

Sabbath School Lesson

My Personal Potential

Posted: 08 May 2012 08:43 AM PDT

Read Psalm 139. Why did David ask God to search His heart? What lessons are here for us, not just for witnessing but for our walk with the Lord, in general? What can we take away from this psalm for ourselves right now? What comfort, hope, and encouragement is there for you? At the same time, what does it say to you about the changes that you need to make in how you live?

David was in touch with the fact that the human heart is difficult to understand. Jeremiah was also in touch with this fact that is why he said “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” (Jer. 17.9). When we search our own hearts we may miss something, but when God searches our hearts He does so understanding completely who we are. We must also understand that God is greater than our hearts even when our heart does condemn us (1 John 3:20).

David desired to be searched by God so that he could offer a more authentic and sincere service. David also realized that because God knew him so well he could not even hide if he wanted to. Our witness is strengthened by our authentic connection with God and obedience to His commands. When we come close to God He transforms us from the inside out (2 Cor 3:18) (Rom 12, 1,2). Spiritual strength is not something which happens accidentally it happens when we move intentionally toward God. What ever the cost, whatever that challenge, seek God it is worth the sacrifice.

Prayer: Lord God Almighty, we desire to come close to you. Please search us and reveal to us our desperate need of your help. We desire transformation, may we behold you daily and move daily toward reflecting your image. Thank you, in Jesus amen.
