Positive Christian Attitudes

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. What three things does Paul consider the will of God for every believer? Why is each one so important? See also Galatians 5:22, Phil 4:4.

Rejoicing, prayer, and giving thanks are the things which Paul mentions in this passage. I believe that these three things help us to maintain what the lesson calls  positive Christian attitudes. When we are rejoicing and giving thanks it is difficult to look at things in a negative light. When we meditate on all the good things that God has done for us it helps to forget about the negative things, or think about them differently. I believe that prayer is also key in the equation to our attitudes. Through prayer we are able to connect with God and find peace for life's troubles.

Make a list of ten things for which you are thankful. Be very specific. Then make each of these the center of a short prayer to God. Notice the changes that will come in your whole attitude and outlook. This practice can show you just how crucial thankfulness is in our experience with God.

Prayer: Father Thank you for all that you have done for us. Help us to remember. In Jesus name amen.
